Tizu Valley Biodiversity Conservation and Livelihood Network
The Village Council of New Thewati in Meluri district, is a vulnerable indigenous community sharing their trans-national traditional land boundary with the Myanmar (Burma). A highly unexplored and old growth forest area of the eastern Nagaland, also hosts the second highest peak of the state, Mol-Len peak. The Pochury tribal community that share indigenous cultural values and relationship with the local forest has been trying to ban local hunting and fishing along with un-planned logging activities to conserve the appx. 7355 hecatres of land. The major rivers running through this indigenous community land are the Khayuti and the Layukti rivers.
